A year ago, we were starting to come to terms with Lockdown. A year on, most businesses are exhausted with TEAMS and ZOOM meetings,. In addition,  the tsunami of data, updates, new announcements etc has been hard to cope with ……. And now we have an election!

While there is some light at the end of the tunnel we will still have to cope with ‘the online stuff’ for some months to come and while we recognise the ‘screen fatigue’ there are some valuable resources / contacts to be made ….. please hang on in there!

Reopening Guidance

The Scottish Government is currently updating guidance related to reopening for all sectors and it’s hoped this will be finalised and available by mid-April to allow time for operators to absorb and plan for any changes in advance of reopening.

Many of the standard aspects of the current guidance will remain the same, such as physical distancing, face coverings, at seat service in hospitality and enhanced hygiene protocols.  Safe operating practices will continue to be the subject of a risk-based approach, with all premises required to revisit their COVID-19 risk assessments

This can be carried out now for the majority of ongoing mitigating measures and then reviewed in light of updated guidance when published. As soon as we have any updates they will be shared with local operators. We also hope to have a session covering visitor management with input from Police Scotland, public agencies and the Local Authority.

Crofters and Crofting Communities on Skye

The last month has seen an intense collaboration between ourselves and the local SAC consulting office to identify the degree and type of tensions that exists between visitors, crofters and crofting communities on Skye with a view to establishing a funding stream from voluntary donations to pay for mitigation, enhancement and environmental protection measures at visitor hotspots.

Funded by Nature Scot and supported by a local steering group including the NFU, SCF and 2 community organisations, the project hopes to establish a pilot project within the next 18 months.
